APPLE CONCEPT

ARE YOU LIVING THE WHOLE MESSAGE OF JESUS?

...YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE

WHAT IS THE OPPOSITE OF TRUTH?

Christians and even non-Christians agree that the message of Jesus is salvation.

We believe His death paid the penalty for our sin so that we may have eternal life.

This is true, but incomplete.

Jesus life and death also proved that we were loved and valued enough to die for, that God so loved the world, He gave His son… Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come to give you life, and have it to the full.” This is the second half of the message.

Part of God's plan for our lives is freedom and fullness and completeness within ourselves. This is a wholeness that exceeds any temporary feeling of value from wealth, power, beauty, knowledge, etc. Yet, so many people walk the Earth in utter shame, self-depravity, and hopelessness.

We have been told over and over, from parents, society, and possibly our trusted priests, ministers, and pastors, that we are not enough and will never be enough; that we are dirty and wicked souls. The Apple Concept charges that belief to be the original sin of man...I am not enough. When that sin...that lie...invades our minds...our entire lives, actions, reactions, and beliefs are changed because we must cope with the lie by manufacturing value through other people, places, and things.

Somewhere, somehow the message of  'you will never be good enough to get to heaven on your own-you are saved by grace' has become you are not enough...period. Yet, God would not create and then save worthless people. Jesus came to save-not to condem the world, but we condem ourselves when we de-value the work of our Creator. We are his work, and we were created in His image!  God saw what he created and thought it was very good. Although sin seperates us from God, He still seeks us, draws us, delights in us, and wants us because we are loved abundantly. Jesus' love restores us to live out our lives-created in His image...that is good news! We mean something to God. Jesus says come as you are...you are enough...and I will give you rest, I will restore your soul, I will lead you to the water...

The Apple Concept charges that God, out of His love has been pleading with humankind, even sending His Son to make a way for us to turn away from the lie and realize how much He values us. We are not worthless...we just believed we were. The whole message of God is salvation by grace and abundant living in love that draws others to salvation by grace and abundant living in love that draws others...

Consider this familiar Bible story and accounting of original sin: Eve lived in harmonious, encompassing perfection with Adam, with the Earth, and with God. She was free, full, whole, and valued.

What derailed her?

A lie was whispered to her. With the temptation in plain view, a subtle lie was presented, “This will make you better… This will make you like the One you most admire.” In order to want more, despite a life of bounty, Eve had to believe she was not enough the way she was; she reached for the false promise of becoming better... That same lie is whispered in each of our lives every day. It is the apple we are fed. Did anyone ever tell you that you were not enough? Your church, your mother or father...society? Have you ever reached for something you thought would make you better to find it provided only temporary fulfillment?

Just like the seeds in an apple, this lie, is the center of every origin of sin. When planted in our minds, we unknowingly grow the tree of destruction that branches out into every part of our lives. It causes us to reach for things that will not satisfy, hide from our own potential, and fight for credit and attention we do not need because we believe we are not enough.

The lie of not enough infuses our mindset, dictating our choices until we become so soul-starved that we are hardly recognizable as who we were intended to be. Gossip, racism, pride, envy, greed, apathy, self addiction, self mutilation, dominance...these are just a few of the many ways the lie of not enough plays out in the world! The lie drives us from the Eden of freedom, fullness, wholeness, and value; we are separated from harmonious, encompassing perfection with others, with the Earth, and with God.

We feel exhausted and alone trying over and over to find fullness, fulfillment, and love.

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHY YOU CAN'T CHANGE?

WHY LIFE DOESN'T HOLD MUCH JOY?

What if Jesus came to save you from the lie? What if His death proves what you are worth to God? How would your life look if it were full of value, worth, and love -- for yourself and others? Although we will never experience what Eve had on Earth, we have been invited to the garden everyday to turn from the lie, or to ingest it. We have to stop believing the lie and realize our worth from God.

WHAT IS THE REMEDY?

Readers will discover how to live with SOUL-VALUE

Imagine having a child and tapping him on the head as he walked out the door for school in the morning, "Remember Johnny, you are not enough - you've never been enough and you will never be enough. Now, go and have a good day. Have a good, but worthless, life." Would you do that?

Psychologists have told us for years the impact of self-esteem on a child's future. When you don't think you are enough, you live into that belief. Johnny needs his mother and he is alive because she conceived and birthed him, so without her he wouldn't be here, yet he is still loved and unique and valued by his mother as her son. Thinking of our ultimate Creator, God, and us as his children; is He saying we are worthless every morning as we set out on our day? Or is God saying, "you need me, and without me your life will be meaningless, but you are loved and unique and valued as my child, so don't let the world tell you otherwise." This is a subtle difference in interpretation with profound consequences...It is and will always be glory to God for all life; however, we are His children and we were created to live fully in His image and not lives of worthlessness. If we don't realize our value from God, how can we authentically love and value others?

The remedy is Jesus' love and grace, His full message. We can expose the lie of not enough and turn instead to the truth of who we were intended to be. Discovering who God is and how He offers abundant love and grace no matter where we are in life, we can be freed from seeking a manufactured worth through people, places, or things. When we value ourselves, we are free to feel worthy of love, worthy of living an authentic life. We are free to stop asking or demanding others to make us feel worthy because we will find our value in being who we were created to be. We were created by God!

Freedom begins when, in the shelter of total acceptance, we realize we don't need the behaviors (sins) of the lie. There is no need to distract from the lie (gauzing: over-spending, over eating, alcoholism, drug addiction) – There is no need to disprove the lie (ladder climbing: achieving motivated by needing to feel power and worth, being better than, prejudice, racism, gossip, one upmanship) – There is no need to hide in obedience to the lie (carnival cut-out: can't say no, people please, accept abuse from others, loss of what makes you authentic) because we know it’s a lie… The lie will no longer play the lead role in our existences because we understand our worth instead.

Likewise, we will begin to view others as having the same limitless personal value, even when we don't like what they are doing. We will begin to see sin as a disregard of the worth God has placed on all of humankind and it will grieve us when we see others living in exchange for the fickle affections of a broken and hurting world. Love, when full and complete within, overflows into the lives of others and does not need to be forced or manufactured. It is authentic.

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves.

- Ephesians 1:4-6 The Message

TRADITIONAL  UNDERSTANDING

          THE APPLE CONCEPT

Original sin is pride

Original sin is "I am not enough...and this (which is pride) will make me better."

You will never be good enough for God

Jesus death paid the penalty for humankinds' sins, because God so loved us. You will never be able to have enough, do enough, distract enough to convince yourself through worldly things or people that you have value. Stop struggling in the external belief of the lie and come to God as you are. He loves you. He sent His Son for you. He created you in His image; therefore, you are enough.

You sin because of “sin nature"

Sin nature is the lie of not enough passed on from being born in a world where the lie is believed and predominantly practiced.

Stop sinning

Sins dominate by the power of worthlessness within yourself. Start believing you were worth everything to God, which frees you to live with soul-value. Sin has less of a hold on whole people who know their value. That value comes from God. You are loved and whole through Him who created you.

The world is evil

The people in the world are blinded to their worth; they seek value by using other people, places, and things that can not satisfy. The world needs love. Evidence of the original sin of 'not enough' can be found everywhere including in the lives of Biblical characters. If people understood their worth from God, everything from gossip to prejudice, self apathy to dominance, addiction to depravity could be restored.

Love others

Seeing everyone as infinitely valuable to God frees you to want His intention for them to be manifested. Your value is evidence of the value on all God created things. Love overflows when one believes in their own worth and lives as an expression of that personal value by loving others as they love themselves. We do this because God first loved us.

God turns His back on sinners

God looked for Adam and Eve after they sinned, He made them clothes. He provided Jesus as a sacrifice for all humankind. He never turned His back on us. Sin made us less than He intended and, though we were to blame, He provided a gift of reconciliation. God said He will never leave you or forsake you. He seeks you, calls you, desires to bring you rest and peace.

 Show Jesus to the world

Live in freedom, unencumbered by fear, guilt, flattery, and desperation used as a remedy for the lie; turn to the truth about who God created you to be, and others will see Jesus’ Spirit at work in your life. Do not "show" yourself well, become your God-created-self, alive and whole and complete.

The Holy Spirit will tell you what to do

The Holy Spirit will help you understand how the lie plays out in your life. He will guide you, directing your life into the truth.

Use your gifts in serving God

Use your individual abundance of love and grace from God - found in your unique passions, talents, abilities, strengths, and qualifications. This is glorifying to God because He made you; your abundant life blesses others.

Psychologists have studied the impact of verbal abuse on children

Telling a child he or she is worthless, won’t amount to anything, or is unlovable

leads that child directly into a life of self destruction.

Would God’s message to us be one of worthlessness?

Could the message have somehow been misinterpreted or flipped around?

Could God be pleading with us, even sending His son, to free us from believing the lie that we are worthless?

Have we believed in the lie instead of the truth?

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

- Galatians 5:1 The Message
